Obituary for Tanner Riley Landrum
Obituary for Tanner Riley Landrum (written by Kylie Landrum)
Tanner Riley Landrum was born February 10, 2010. He was a very adorable mixture of Pit Bull and Boston Terrier. From such a young age, it was easy to see that Tanner was no ordinary dog. He was very special to my family, but even more special to me. My name is Kylie Landrum, and I was the proud dog mom/owner of Tanner. He was my baby boy and my very best friend! I taught Tanner a lot of tricks – some of them very basic like sitting, shaking, and standing, but also some more advanced tricks, like target training, speaking on command, cup tricks, and sniff challenges. He learned how to communicate all of his needs, like picking up and carrying his bowl and placing it in my lap when he was thirsty or hungry. As a young puppy, it was obvious that Tanner was very smart, so in his 1st year of life, I entered him in the Greene County Fair competition for the Most Talented Puppy, where he performed multiple tricks for me. Tanner won the competition! The next year, I entered him in the Most Talented Dog contest for adult dogs, where Tanner performed more advanced tricks, and he won again! Each year he got better. We spent a lot of time together. He truly was my best friend! We understood each other, and he was always there to make me laugh and smile when I was feeling down or had a bad day. Tanner loved to play tug of war and was extremely strong. Once he got a grip on the rope, he wasn’t letting go – even when his body was lifted off the ground! He also loved to chase tennis balls, although he normally ate them (every single piece) after he caught them.
Tanner may have been shorter due to his Boston Terrier half, but he was extremely strong and stout like his Pit Bull half. However, pit bull or not, I couldn’t have asked for a better dog. He was wonderful, and very protective of me, as well as my family. He didn’t like anyone to hug on his family members unless he was included in the hug. Many nights, he slept in my bedroom floor, and that’s where he was sleeping when he took his last breath in the early morning of February 2, 2020, at my bedside.
I will never be able to replace Tanner, and would never even try to! For 10 years, Tanner brought me so much love and joy, and always seemed to know when I needed him most! I will love and miss him forever. I love you T-Dog!!!
